Although the weather today is unseasonably warm, we should see a return to some drastically cold temperatures this week and the return of winter! It is easy for me to forget, even just for a day, that we are in January, but I don’t think I’ll be able to make that mistake for the remainder of this week.
At least snow is not in the forecast.
Patty’s Deli and Chapel’s Country Creamery are back this week. Thank goodness, because I am nearly out of cheese, and a little Tuscan ribollita soup from Patty’s might just do the trick for a cold day.
And cold weather does not keep our oysterman, Chris Burns, and his son (Chinky Oysters) out of the water! The oysters are fresh and delicious – we are enjoying them every week.
Hattie’s Garden will harvest a fresh bed of arugula. We are also happy to have continued access to winter squash, sweet potatoes and plenty of “cold” weather vegetables such as kale and broccoli.
Did I say broccoli?! Yes, Chesapeake Organic does have broccoli available for us this week and Greenbranch continues to pull the nicest, crispiest, sweetest and largest Chantenay carrots I have ever seen.
Backyard Jams and Jellies has added four new jams. They have a wonderful Spiced Apple Jelly with clove, nutmeg and a cinnamon stick. They also have delicious Apple Butter jam and have just made two new No Sugar Added Jams with just the fruit: No Sugar Added Pear and No Sugar Added Pear Raspberry.
There is much more available on the Order Form this week from our 12 local vendors. We hope you enjoy your online shopping experience and then enjoy the food you receive even more!
Yours in the high tunnel this week,
