Welcoming April
We look forward to welcoming April this week! Here’s the latest news from Hattie’s Garden.
Gardening Classes Rescheduled
We have rescheduled the gardening classes to mid-April because of our colder than normal weather. You may still sign up for either class online. There are still a few spots left and the new dates / times are as follows:
- Sunday Class: April 12 from 2:30 to 5:30 & April 19 from 12 to 3; or
- Monday Class: April 13 from 4 to 7 & April 20 from 4 to 7.
Delivery / Pickup Service
We will do our delivery / pickup service just twice more during this “off-season”. These dates are this Saturday, April 4 for Easter weekend and Saturday, April 18.
For those of you who celebrate Easter, we have wonderful items to make for a nice Easter dinner. The availability of local products will ensure you eat well. This includes a good amount of fresh produce, pastured beef and pork, free-range eggs, cheese from grass-fed cows, and prepared foods and breads, jams and jellies, made from wholesome ingredients.
Both Deep Grass Organic and Chesapeake Organic have young bunched beets in limited supply. Hattie’s Garden, Deep Grass and Chesapeake have arugula, and Chesapeake has some lettuce. You’ll also find kale and collard greens, spinach and Swiss chard.
Did you know their are 100 of breeds of chickens in existence? Breeds vary in size, plumage, feather type, egg color and of course in origin. The Ameraucana or Easter Egger (pictured above & below) lay eggs in various shades of blue, green and lavender that don’t even need to be dyed. A nice backyard chicken, the Ameraucana is hardy for a cold winter, and very friendly with a nice personality.
What’s Ahead
When we are not delivering, or conducting classes, Hattie’s Garden will spend every available moment preparing for the growing season.
The 2015 Season of the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) will celebrate its 10th anniversary opening day, Saturday, May 9 from 8 to noon.
Hattie’s Garden will have plant sales at the garden throughout the month of May. The plant sales will also feature produce from Hattie’s Garden as it becomes available.
You will get a newsletter ahead of time with all the details.
