Vernal Equinox
See below for revised Garden Class dates.
The vernal equinox (also known as the first day of spring) arrives tomorrow morning, on March 20 at precisely 6:29 a.m when the Sun will cross directly over the Earth’s equator. It is also marks the first day of astronomical spring.
Notwithstanding the cold weather these past weeks, daylight continues to grow longer until the summer solstice, which occurs on Wednesday, June 21. The Earth’s Northern Hemisphere tilts closer to the sun, and warmer weather is inevitable, including plants, flowers, sandals, sunshine, and general happiness. It is always a wonderful and busy time for us as we watch our part of the world awaken and we begin gardening tasks in earnest.
This year Hattie will be teaching organic gardening to any of you who wish to sign up. Please see below for more information.
Delivery / Pickup Service
Our order form is now open. This week we are very happy to be working with our vendors again to bring you all kinds of great locally produced food.
The produce from Chesapeake Organic and Fresh Harvest is becoming more abundant and there is still plenty of cheese, meat, eggs, fresh mushrooms and locally prepared delicious foods and jams and jellies.
Hattie’s Garden is offering cilantro, dill and chive plants this week to get you started on your cold weather herbs. We can deliver along with your order or you may pickup at the house.
Deadline for ordering is Wednesday at noon for pickup or delivery for your order on Saturday, March 26. We advise you to please place your orders, especially if you are going to want produce items, as soon as possible. Supplies are limited.
Please keep in mind as you order for this Saturday’s service, that next week, April 1, will be no service. Our final two delivery / pickup services for the season, will be Saturday, April 8 and Saturday, April 15 in time for Easter for those of you who celebrate. We then move full-time into our own growing operation and join the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) on Saturdays, beginning May 6, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as the second HLFM market on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. beginning on June 7, located across from Crooked Hammock Way on King’s Highway near Rt. 1.
