September 8, 10 & 12 Produce, Herbs and Flowers
Stop by Hattie’s Garden Tuesday, September 8, Thursday, September 10, and Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM to 2 PM. The garden is still producing beautifully this week, with plenty of late-summer favorites available.
New this week is fresh young ginger. This is nothing like the tough, gnarled-rooted ginger you may be used to seeing at the supermarket. Young ginger is juicy and plump, with beautiful pink tips where the green stems emerge. It’s mild and tender enough to eat raw and has an almost translucent skin so thin that there’s no need to peel it. Just wash it and trim the cut surfaces.
This week’s harvest also includes heirloom, cherry and red sandwich tomatoes, a colorful assortment of peppers, young arugula, young lettuce mix, fresh-cut basil & chives, and fresh flower bouquets. There is also lots of fresh-cut basil, so if you’d like a larger amount to freeze for later, please email Hattie soon.
