September 15, 17 & 19 Produce and Basil
Stop by Hattie’s Garden Tuesday, September 15, Thursday, September 17, and Saturday, September 19 from 10 AM to 2 PM. As the late-summer season begins to wind down, Hattie still has a selection of fresh produce and basil available this week.
We are pulling fresh young ginger again this week. This ginger is nothing like what you may be used to using. It is so tender it does not need to be peeled and can even be eaten raw. It is perishable, but if you store your young ginger properly, it will last well for at least a couple of weeks. Place in a plastic bag, seal and store in your crisper. Make sure the ginger is dry. You may also freeze your ginger for use over the winter. Clean well, dry and place in a freezer bag. You can grate the frozen ginger as you need it.
This week’s harvest also includes sweet and cayenne peppers, young arugula, young lettuce mix, and fresh-cut basil. There is lots of fresh-cut basil, so if you’d like a larger amount to freeze for later, please email Hattie soon.
