We will also be at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) located at George H.P. Smith Park on Saturday, September 7 from 8 to 12. In the event of inclement weather on Saturday, the HLFM will be located at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road.
What’s New for the Fall at Hattie’s Garden
We are excited about what we hope to bring you this fall. Starting this week, we have beautiful pole beans for you. We love our pole beans. They have a sweeter flavor than typical bush beans and are tender and delicious. Always harvested young.
Coming later in September we will be harvesting lettuce mix, lettuce heads, young swiss chard, young dwarf Siberian kale, beets, and purple and wax bush beans as well as Provider green beans. Beans are the new shoulder crop with climate change forcing them to grow best in spring and fall.
Also look for a resurgence of tomatoes. They are back! Our second flush and second planting are coming along nicely and we should have a nice selection at the garden each week for the remainder of September. And of course, the peppers love this cooler weather and are also making a lovely comeback.
Finally, please come redeem your CSA credits as Hattie’s Garden will close its doors Thanksgiving week.
