What’s New for the Fall at Hattie’s Garden
This week, we will be harvesting lemongrass. If you haven’t used lemongrass in your dishes, you’ll be delighted. Cultivated for 1000’s of years in southeast Asian and India, lemongrass is a staple especially in Thai and Indonesian cooking. Wonderful citrusy flavor and aroma, it is also used in tea blends and as a simple tea on its own. Known for its medicinal benefits, lemongrass has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties and is a source of essential vitamins and minerals. We are happy to show you how to use it and it can also be frozen for use throughout the year.
In addition to our beautiful pole beans, we will start harvesting young Siberian Kale for you. This is a tender, sweet and delicious kale our customers love and we hope you’ll enjoy it this fall.
If you missed out on our lettuce mix on Saturday, as it sold out quickly, we will have plenty for you this week at the garden. We also have more heirloom and beefsteak tomatoes and more cherry tomato pints for you. Our Pablano, Shishito and Carmen Italian frying peppers just won’t quit producing and look better than ever.
Finally, please come redeem your CSA credits as Hattie’s Garden will close its doors Thanksgiving week.
What’s Available from Hattie
The following freshly harvested produce and flowers will be available at the Garden on Tuesday, September 10, Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12 from 10 to 2. We will also be at the HLFM on Saturday, September 14 from 8 to 12.

- Young Siberian Kale — A tasty Russian variety with flat, blue-green leaves. We pick this variety young and tender to make it a versatile kale. Eat it raw in salads or smoothies, or lightly cook for even more flavor.
- Lemongrass — Lemony, herbaceous, works well in sweet and savory dishes and drinks.
- Pole Beans — Beautiful mixture of Seychelles green and Monte Gusto yellow wax beans. Delightfully tender and long, these elegant beans are just stunningly beautiful and delicious.
- Shishito Peppers — These popular appetizer peppers are mostly a mild chili pepper, with an occasional hotter pepper. Toss in oil and sear in the skillet, then sprinkle with flaky salt.
- Poblano Peppers — Sweet mildly-hot (also referred as Ancho’s when dried).
- Carmen Red Italian Frying Peppers — Sweet Italian pepper that are considered by some to be the best-tasting Italian frying pepper.
- Tomatoes — Beefsteak and Heirloom.
- Cherry Tomatoes — Nice mixed pints.
- Chives — Freshly cut.
- Fresh Tarragon — Freshly cut.
- Hardneck Garlic — Hardneck garlic has a stronger, more interesting flavor than softneck garlic, and the larger cloves are easier to peel.
- Young Arugula — Triple-washed and bagged.
