What’s Available from Hattie this Week
The following freshly harvested produce and herbs are available this week at the Garden during our open hours on Thursday and Saturday, at the Wednesday HLFM, or through our Saturday Pickup/Delivery Service. The deadline for placing your order is Tuesday at 8 PM.
- Fresh Young Ginger — Fresh young ginger is juicy and plump, with pink at its tips from where green stems shoot forth. Limit 1/4 lb per customer until later in the fall.
- Beans — Jade Green Beans and Rattlesnake Pole Beans.
- Shishito Peppers — These popular appetizer peppers are mostly a mild chili pepper, but every now and then a particular pod will pack some heat. Makes the perfect finger food when blistered.
- Heirloom Tomatoes — Pineapple Bicolor, Cherokee Purple and Brandywine.
- Cherry Tomatoes — Mixed pints of black and red cherries.
- Peppers — Various sweet and hot.
- Arugula — It’s young and delicious. Triple-washed.
- Fresh Hardneck Garlic — We are offering fresh Russian Red.
- Basil — Wonderful culinary and medicinal benefits. At the Garden or order for Saturday pickup/delivery.
- Rosemary — A culinary herb best known for its use in poultry dishes, soups, spreads, and teas. At the Garden or order for Saturday pickup/delivery.
What’s Available from our Other Vendors
The following produce and food items from our vendors are available to purchase during our open hours at the Garden on Thursday and Saturday, or through the Saturday Pickup/Delivery Service (deadline for placing your order is Tuesday at 8 PM).
- Flying Squirrel Garden — Freshly baked, seasonal fruit pies, made with all organic ingredients. Although they are not on our order form, if you know you would like one, please let Hattie know via email so she can order an appropriate number of pies for Saturday. Both 6″ and 9″ pies will be available for first come customers and those who email ahead. Fruit should be peaches, perhaps blueberries and cherries. All pies are absolutely delicious and taste more like fruit and less like the organic cane sugar sparingly included in each to achieve a perfect fruit pie.
- Stag Run — In addition to the early Ginger Gold apples, Stag Run is introducing Gala apples this week. The Ginger Gold is a nice combination of Golden Delicious and Pippin. Sweet and delicious out of hand, and also browns slowly when cut, so is popular for salads, etc. Gala is, of course, a favorite and is sweet, fine-textured and aromatic. Stag Run is home to Chrissy Bee’s honey, and we carry their signature Butterbean Honey as well as their popular Wildflower Honey.
- AlaskaWild Seafoods — Smoked Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Alaska Cod and Pacific Rockfish from Alaska sustainably managed waters.
- Chapel’s Country Creamery — Bringing you their new free-range pork and ground beef, as well as a wonderful assortment of fresh cheese from grass fed cows.
- Dittmar Chicken — Chicken liver and whole chickens.
- Twin Post Farm — Free-range chicken eggs.
