In addition to our farm hours, you can find us at the Fall Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) located at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road on Saturday from 9 to 12. Please note this is the final market for the season. It will reopen in May 2024.

This week we are happy to introduce Dittmar Farms grass-fed beef. We have beautiful roasts, steaks, short ribs, soup bones, ground beef, stew meat and chip steak. We love Dittmar’s dedication to regenerative farming.

Off-Season Pickup/Delivery Service begins December 2

We are busy putting together our off-season program, offering local produce and food throughout the dark days of winter.

The following vendors will join the list of vendors below — Gaia Coffee Co., a small batch roastery; Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms, with a large range of fresh mushrooms; 302 Aquaponics, with delicious salad ingredients; and Dittmar grass-fed beef, available now.

Our first order form will be delivered to your email box on Sunday, November 26 for the Saturday, December 2 service. Fill out the order form for pickup at the Garden on Saturday from 9 to 2, or opt-in for our delivery service if you live in Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth or the Long Neck area of Millsboro.

We will also be open for casual shopping on Saturday from 9 to 2 and Tuesday from 12 to 3, beginning Tuesday, November 28. You do not have to fill out an order form if you would prefer to shop casually during those hours. Of course, ordering does guarantee your items, but we always have plenty of items here at the Garden.

What’s Available from Hattie

The following freshly harvested produce will be available at the Garden on Tuesday, November 14 from 1 to 4 and Thursday, November 16 from 10 to 4, and at the HLFM Fall Market at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Rd on Saturday from 9 to 12.

• Young Carrots — Young Carrots bunched.
• Red Satin Radishes — Beautiful and delicious with lovely greens.
• Hakurei Turnips — Sweet, mild white salad turnips are good raw or lightly cooked.
• Young Arugula — It’s young, clean and flavorful. Triple-washed and bagged.
• Young Swiss Chard — Bagged. Delightfully tender, young Swiss chard is suitable for salad use or lightly cooked.
• Chives — Fresh-cut, in bunches.
• Baby Bok Choy — Young, tender and delicious.
• Young Mixed Lettuce — Triple washed and bagged. Limited.
• Red Potatoes — Small red potatoes with thin nutrient filled skins.
• Fuyu Persimmons — Can be eaten while still hard and is delicious with no astringency. Great with a charcuterie tray with cheeses and nuts. Use in salads and pairs wonderfully with cinnamon and cloves for baking and cooking. No core. Eat the entire fruit. Considered a national fruit in Japan.

Microgreens

• Arugula Microgreens — One of our most popular microgreens because of its distinctive spicy and nutty flavor.
• Mixed Microgreens — Mixture of kale, kohlrabi, asian greens, red cabbage.
• China Rose/Daikon Radish microgreens mixture — Outstanding spicy kick that’s a great addition to a salad or on top of a sandwich.

Plants

We have lovely Lavender Plants for your home gardens in 8″ pots.

What’s Available from our Other Vendors

We carry the following meat, eggs, cheese, fish and other food products at the Garden on Tuesday, November 14 from 1 to 4 and Thursday, November 16 from 10 to 4.

• Dittmar Farms — Grass fed beef. Dittmar grows Belted Galloway, a traditional hardy breed of Scottish cattle. The Belted Galloway is eminently suited to be grass-fed and produces a tender, juicy, flavorful beef, lean and higher in protein and lower in cholesterol than comparable breeds. Belted Galloway has high levels of marbling without being fed grain. This heritage beef breed dates back over 1,000 years.
• Stag Run Farm — This week we have Cameo, Fuji, Granny Smith, Gibson Golden Delicious, Gold Rush, Honey Crisp, JonaGold, Pink Lady, Stayman, and Winesap. See below for apple descriptions.
• Enoch Farms — Sustainably raised, naturally grown, heritage pork. Available this week is Sweet Italian, Spicy Italian, Kielbasa, Chorizo, Breakfast Links, Breakfast Patties, Bratwurst, Scrapple, Porkchops, Bacon and Spare ribs.
• Backyard Jams & Jellies — We have a large variety of jams, jellies, mustards, chutney, no sugar added, and plenty of the popular Beach Plum Jelly.
• AlaskaWild Seafoods — Flash frozen, wild-caught salmon, rockfish and cod.
• Chapel’s Country Creamery — Farmstead artisan cheese that taste as good as they look. The cows are not given any synthetic growth or production-enhancing hormones, just a lot of love and attention.
• Chrissy’s Bees — Dutch Clover and Wildflower Honey.
• Twin Post Farm — Free-range chicken eggs from Princess Anne County.

Stag Run Farm Apples

Below are the apples from Stag Run that you can purchase at the Garden on Tuesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 16.

• Pink Lady — a gourmet late apple that requires much attention from the grower. Pink Lady is a sweet-tart apple with crisp bite and effervescent finish. Also known as Cripp’s Pink, this apple has an attractive pink blush and gorgeous bright white flesh. It is slow to oxidize and so wonderful for entertaining. Firm and long-storing.
• Gold Rush — nice and juicy, sweet and crisp, this cross with a Golden Delicious has Winesap, Melrose and Rome ancestry. Gold Rush is an all-purpose apple and keeps well. One of Hattie’s favorite.
• Cameo — a great fresh eating apple and excellent baking apple. Cameo has a thin skin with a sweet and tart flavor with a hint of pear. Firm and crisp red striped apple.
• Fuji — crisp, firm and dense, juicy and one of the sweetest. Good keeper, and while mostly known as an eating apple, it holds its shape well and so is suited to baking.
• Gibson Golden Delicious — this fresh eating apple has a honey sweet flavor, is crisp and juicy and is an all-purpose apple. This mutation of Golden Delicious is less prone to russetting and has a nice smooth skin.
• Granny Smith — this hard sour apple is back! Great for cooking and eating raw. Nice in salads as it doesn’t brown quickly. And green apples have more protein, more fiber, a bit more potassium and iron than red. (Red is higher in beta carotene and antioxidants.)
• Honey Crisp — Well balanced, sweet, tart taste, honey crisp is fantastically crisp and juicy. It’s moderately sharp sub-acid taste is accompanied by mild aromatic characteristic. A good keeper, Honey Crisp is an all-purpose apple.
• JonaGold — a cross between a Jonathan and a Golden Delicious, JonaGold is a large delicious apple. Sweet and tart all-purpose apple.
• Stayman — Around since at least the mid-19th century, Stayman is a medium-sized red apple that is firm, tender, finely textured, juicy, crisp, tart and spicy. It is used as a dessert apple and keeps well.
• Winesap — This small to medium apple is an old cultivar from at least the 18th century. Winesap is sweet with a tangy finish and is an all-purpose apple.

Directions to Hattie’s Garden

Hattie’s Garden is located at 31341 Kendale Rd in Lewes approximately 3 miles from Plantation Road (also known as Rt. 1D), coming inland on either Robinsonville Rd. or Beaver Dam Rd (Rt. 23 South).

Kendale Rd. is a short road (0.6 miles) between Robinsonville and Beaver Dam Road.

The house is fifth on the left from Beaver Dam Rd, and has a large wooden fence in front of house with purple trim.
