What’s Available from Hattie

The following freshly harvested produce and flowers will be available at the Garden on Tuesday, August 6, Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8. We will also be at the HLFM on Saturday, August 10 from 8 to 12.

• Beefsteak Red Tomatoes — Choose from Bigdena, a large, firm beefsteak with a slightly acidic, full-bodied and tangy flavor and Jolena, a deep red beefsteak, also chosen for flavor and a bit smaller than Bigdena for those of you wanting a smaller slicer.
• Heirloom Tomatoes — Our heirlooms this week are Pineapple Bicolor, a household favorite around here. It is an enormous, sweet and juicy and absolutely delicious low-acid tomato. We also have the much loved Cherokee Purple, a medium sized dark, mahogany red tomato with a distinctive flavor, dense juicy texture. Sweet and smoky with a nice balance of acidity.
• Cherry Tomatoes — Heaping pints of delicious cherry tomatoes.
• Basil — Freshly cut. Pesto amounts of basil ready now! Email Hattie and she will have it ready for you by the pound.
• Chives — Freshly cut.
• Flat ‘Gigante d’Italia’ Parsley — Full of fresh flavor that lifts any dish. Freshly cut.
• Poblano Peppers — Sweet mildly-hot (also referred as Ancho’s when dried).
• Shishito Peppers — These popular appetizer peppers are mostly a mild chili pepper, with an occasional hotter pepper. Toss in oil and sear in the skillet, then sprinkle with flaky salt.
• Carmen Red Italian Frying Peppers — Sweet Italian pepper that are considered by some to be the best-tasting Italian frying pepper.
• Unagi Cucumbers — These delicious cucumbers are spineless and a hybrid Middle Eastern Beit Alpha x Japanese long variety that we love. Small seed cavities and thin skins make them perfect for all cucumber uses.
• Hardneck Garlic — Hardneck garlic has a stronger, more interesting flavor than softneck garlic, and the larger cloves are easier to peel.
• Eggplant — Asian and Italian.
• Young Arugula — Triple-washed and bagged.
• Fresh-Cut Flower Bouquets — This week we have bouquets with Zinnias, Celosia, Ageratum, Dianthus and Gomphrena. Each bouquet comes with flower food, and is guaranteed to last at least a week. They are exquisite.
