Stop by Hattie’s Garden on Thursday, June 29 for the sale of produce, flowers, meat, eggs, cheese, fish and plants for your home gardens.

You can also find us at the Wednesday Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) from 8 to 11:30, located at the Crooked Hammock Brewery parking lot, and at the Saturday HLFM located at the George H.P. Smith Park on Saturday from 8 to 12. In the event of inclement weather on Saturday, the HLFM will be located at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road.

What’s Available from Hattie

The following freshly harvested produce will be available at the Garden on Thursday, June 29 from 10 to 4, and at HLFM Markets on Wednesday (8 to 11:30) and Saturday (8 to noon).

• Provider Green Beans — Harvested when they’re young and tender, the ‘Provider’ variety is well flavored and delicious.
• Fresh German Extra-Hardy Hardneck Garlic — Rich garlic flavor with lingering heat. The taste is pungent, but not overpowering. This variety’s very large cloves makes it one of the easiest to peel. German Extra Hardy is perfect for pesto-making or baking whole. Its mild flavor when cooked makes it a favorite among chefs for garlic mashed potatoes.
• Fresh Inchelium Softneck Garlic — This garlic is a national taste-test winner in the softneck division. Long lasting mild flavor with just a hint of hot.
• Young Lancelot Leeks — Great for soups, salads and roasting, our slender young lancelot leeks have a long white shaft.
• Suhyo Cucumbers — This long, slender Japanese cucumber is mild with few seeds. Sweet crunchy flesh with thin rippled skin that needs no peeling.
• Shishito Peppers — These popular appetizer peppers are mostly a mild chili pepper, but every now and then a particular pod will pack some heat. Makes the perfect finger food when blistered. Toss in oil and sear in the skillet, then sprinkle with flaky salt.
• Swiss Chard — Tender young bunches. Cooks quickly and is delicious.
• Young Arugula — Triple-washed and bagged.
• Young Mixed Lettuce — Triple-washed and bagged.
• Mesclun — Triple-washed and bagged.
• Basil — Beautiful freshly-harvested bunches.
• Fresh-Cut Flower Bouquets — This week we have bouquets with Dahlias, Zinnias, Double-click Cosmos, Snapdragons, Yarrow and Tall Blue Planet Ageratum. Each bouquet comes with flower food, and is guaranteed to last at least a week.

• Chapel’s Country Creamery — Farmstead artisan cheese that taste as good as they look. The cows are not given any synthetic growth or production-enhancing hormones, just a lot of love and attention.
• Marble Head Farm — Pasture-raised pork and beef.
• Enoch Farms — Sustainably raised, naturally grown, heritage pork.
• Twin Post Farm — Free-range chicken eggs from Princess Anne County.
• Chrissy’s Bees — Dutch Clover and Wildflower Honey.
• Backyard Jams & Jellies — Dozens of delicious of jams, jellies (including no-sugar options), mustards and chutneys.

Plants

Stop by the Garden on Thursday, June 29 from 10 to 4 to choose from an assortment of plant starts for your home gardens. While we will bring plants to the HLFM on Wednesday and Saturday, our space is limited and your largest selection will always be at the Garden.

Deck plants in large pots this week include Patchouli, Nasturtiums, Genovese Basil and Zahara bedding zinnias.

We still have plenty of basil in 4″ pots for your garden and other herbs including sage, oregano, chives, patchouli plants, lavender and mojito mint.

Finally, there are some nice bedding zinnias for those filling in spaces. These Zahara zinnias are drought tolerant, heat tolerant and bloom all summer with no deadheading.

Directions to Hattie’s Garden

Hattie’s Garden is located at 31341 Kendale Rd in Lewes approximately 3 miles from Plantation Road (also known as Rt. 1D), coming inland on either Robinsonville Rd. or Beaver Dam Rd (Rt. 23 South).

Kendale Rd. is a short road (0.6 miles) between Robinsonville and Beaver Dam Road. The house is fifth on the left from Beaver Dam Rd, and has a large wooden fence in front of house with purple trim.

Park in the graveled area facing the fence. If you don’t see us, you may toot your horn. We could be processing things in the garage or working outside in the garden.

Reminder that you do not need an appointment. Simply show up during our open hours of operation. We prefer cash or checks, but do have the capability to take credit cards if necessary.
