Plants for your Home Gardens
Hattie’s Garden is happy to be offering a new batch of tomato plants for you this week. There are fourteen varieties to choose from, including, hybrid, heirloom, paste, cherry and grape tomatoes. Also notable, a nice batch of Cut ‘n Come Again Zinnias that will grow to about two feet without needing support. A new planting of Benary Giant cutting zinnias is ready for your garden as well, if you dare! They will grow to at least four feet tall with huge blooms of 3-4″, but will need a bit of support, or need to be planted against a fence or wall with plenty of sun. We also have tall Double-Click Cosmos (cranberry and mixed) ready for you.
Take a look at our plants on Hattie’s Garden website for a complete list. Most of those plants are now ready — tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, squash, cucumbers, mixed lettuce, and arugula. And a lot of herbs — spearmint, pineapple mint, Vietnamese coriander, African Blue basil, regular Genovese-type basil (downy mildew resistant varieties), Berggarten sage, Greek oregano, English thyme and chives. Flowers not listed above include two kinds of French marigolds (Brocade and Lemondrop) and lovely bedding zinnias — both Zahara and Profusion. These mixed colored flowers do not need to be deadheaded, are heat tolerant, drought tolerant, disease tolerant and spread like crazy, filling in and growing to at least a foot tall, even when planted 12″ apart. You will have blooms all summer.
We also have beautiful herb planters this year featuring lemon thyme, tri-color sage, parsley, chives and oregano. These herb planters are 12″ long ovals and can be brought into the kitchen for use while cooking. Though it may seem like a lot of herbs in one planter, the herbs simply adapt to the size of the container they are in. There are enough nutrients in the planter to last for the season. When fall arrives, you can plant the herbs outside, or overwinter and re-pot them next spring.
Please note that while we will bring as many plants as possible to the HLFM, our space is limited. The best selection will always be at the garden during our open hours.
You may setup an appointment outside of our regular open hours by texting Hattie at 302-841-1896, or by sending an email to
hattie@hattiesgarden.com. Please indicate one or two times that work for you and she will get right back to you with her availability.
