Lovely Tomatoes
Yes, we have lovely tomatoes this week. The heirlooms we are harvesting are Black Prince, Cherokee Purple, Pruden’s Purple and Brandywine. These are limited in supply, so please come early.
In addition we are harvesting some of our old standby hybrids — Early Girl, Celebrity and Big Beef — all are good slicers and delicious red tomatoes.
We also have an abundance of cherry tomatoes in mixed quarts on sale, in addition to the usual mixed pints and some 1/2 pints of the delightfully delicious little Jasper cherry tomato.
We should have plenty of arugula this week and lots of flowers, in bouquets especially featuring our Benary Giant Zinnias. All our flower bouquets come with a packet of plant food to help them stay fresh, which should be at least a week.
If you can come to the Garden on Thursday or Friday, we are able to offer some organically grown staples from Deep Grass Organic. This week we will have Yukon Gold potatoes, Red Potatoes, Shallots, Garlic, Cippolini and Onions.
Where to Find us This Week
This week Hattie’s Garden will be at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) located at Kings Highway across from Crooked Hammock Brewery on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Hattie’s Garden located at 31341 Kendale Road on Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and at the HLFM located at George H.P. Smith Park on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. If these times/dates do not work for you, please email Hattie to make other arrangements.
This week and last we have been busy planting seeds for the fall and it won’t be long before we bring to you radishes, turnips, kale, lettuce and more. We are grateful for the break in the heatwave, for our customers, ourselves and our Garden!
Yours in the Garden and at the Markets,
