Just About Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day 2019 is just upon us and Hattie’s Garden is happy to provide healthy plants to honor those special people in your life.
We have beautiful sets of four-variety herb planters Mother’s Day. Each contains beautiful Chives and a nice Parsley. Then you can select from ones with various combinations of Berggarten Sage, highly aromatic Purple Sage, sweet Marjoram, essential Greek Oregano, silver-edge Lemon Thyme or savory English Thyme.
These herb planters are just 12″ long ovals and can be brought into the kitchen for use while cooking. Though it may seem like a lot of herbs in one planter, the herbs simply adapt to the size of the container they are in. There are enough nutrients in the planter to last for the season. When fall arrives, you can plant the herbs outside, or overwinter and re-pot them next spring.
For the vegetable gardening mom on Mother’s Day, you may want to consider a gift certificate from Hattie’s Garden and she can come pick out heirloom tomatoes, hot and sweet peppers, squash plants, cucumber plants and lots more.
And we also have beautiful bedding and cutting flowers that will brighten anyone’s day, especially on Mother’s Day.
Stop by Hattie’s Garden this week between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for the purchase of our plants and our produce. You can also find us at the HLFM on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
Produce this Week
For your salad bowls, Hattie’s Garden will be harvesting various heirloom Lettuce Heads, triple-washed/bagged Young Arugula, triple-washed/bagged Loose Leaf Lettuce and triple-washed/bagged Mesclun.
Please look in the blue coolers for our triple-washed greens. Our salad mixes last a long time because of the care we take in harvesting and preparing them for you and then keeping them nice and cool.
We will also be harvesting Hakurei Turnips. Our fresh-cut herbs this week are Cilantro and Mint.
Plants this Week
This is the time of year for starting your gardens! Hattie’s Garden sells dozens of different varieties of all kinds of plants for your garden. Mostly annuals, they range from vegetables to flowers to herbs and are all “organically” grown. No treated seed is used and much of the seed is organic seed when available. And of course, the compost-rich potting soil we use, shipped to us from Vermont Compost Company, is the very best.
Tomatoes, Peppers and Eggplant Plants
We have a beautiful selection of Heirloom, Hybrid and Cherry tomatoes. Both Asian and Italian eggplant varieties are ready for planting, and the gastronomically indispensable hot pepper plants, a good selection of sweet pepper plants and sweet bell peppers are now ready.
Other Vegetable Plants
Our summer squash includes Patty Pan, Yellow Squash and Zucchini. We also have cucumbers — the old standby for slicing Marketmore Cucumber, the delightful pickling (or eating) Little-leaf Cucumber, and the enjoyably mild Super Zagross Middle Eastern. Other vegetable plants include Swiss Chard, lettuce mix, and arugula in six-pack containers.
Flower Plants
Flowers include French Marigolds that are great for cheering up any garden, a variety of zinnias in mixed or individual colors, impressive Cosmos, and edible Jewel Mix Nasturtiums in large pots for your deck or small trays for the garden.
We will, of course, have more flower varieties available for you throughout May.
Herb Plants
Our herbs are really beginning to take off and there are many varieties to choose from. We will have lots more herbs are coming throughout the month of May. All the basil varieties will be ready by mid-May, and will continue to be available throughout June. It loves the warmest weather!
Yours in the Garden and Market,
