July 4th at the Seashore
The excitement of the summer season is growing here at Hattie’s Garden, along with all of our flowers, vegetables and herbs! We know from past experience our July 4th crowds will span both weekends surrounding Independence Day next Tuesday and we will continue to see a growing influx of folks coming to the Lewes, Rehoboth area for some time with the ocean, our outlets, our restaurants and other local businesses.
Even though it gets a bit crowded, we try to enjoy these short weeks of summer with all the fun and activity, all the festivity and celebration that is after all, what summer represents by the seashore.
What’s Available This Week
If you are an activity kind of person, we hope to see you at either of the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) farmer’s markets: Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. located at Kings Highway across from Crooked Hammock Brewery and Saturday from 8 to Noon in the City of Lewes located at George H.P. Smith Park (Block House Pond).
Alternatively, please stop by Hattie’s Garden on Thursday or Friday anytime from 10 to 5 for a quiet and peaceful look at the burgeoning garden and first pick of what’s available this week. We are located at 31341 Kendale Road in Lewes. It’s the fifth house on the left on Kendale from the Beaver Dam end of Kendale. The house has purple eggplant colored trim and you will see cars parked on the lawn. If these times/dates do not work for you, please email Hattie to make other arrangements.
Produce
- Young Arugula — Triple-washed and kept cold for you in our coolers.
- Loose Leaf Lettuce — Cut at a young and tender stage of growth. Triple-washed and kept cold in our coolers.
- Mesclun — Mix of young arugula and loose leaf. Triple-washed and kept cold in our coolers.
- Patty Pan Squash — So delicious … We just can’t get enough of these.

Herbs
Herbs this week include Oregano, Marjoram, Thyme, Rosemary, Curly or Flat Parsley, Sage and Dill, including a multi-pack of smaller amounts of four different herbs for the price of one.
Specialty Cut Flowers
This week we are cutting Benary Giant Zinnias, Double-click Cosmos, Tall Blue Ageratum, Clary Sage, Snapdragons, Gomphrena and hopefully some Gladiolus.
Our cut flowers will generally last a full week. We assemble lovely bouquets or, you may request a custom made bouquet using your choice of flowers, made on the spot. Each bouquet comes with a packet of flower food.
Plants for your Garden
This is the last week we will offer tomato plants, eggplant plants and hot pepper plants.
We still have many herb plants and flower plants, both cutting flowers and bedding flowers. And, as always, good gardening know-how and advise are freely dispensed.
Yours in the Garden & Markets,
