Honey & Cabbage
The order form for our delivery / pickup service, this Saturday, December 15, is now available online.
This week we will have available in glass jars, wonderful raw honey harvested from the hives at our own Garden.
Also new this week are the underappreciated cabbages — Napa and Savoy from Chesapeake Organic.
Napa cabbage is an Asian version of cabbage with lighter leaves. Large heads can be shredded and added to soups, used in stir fry, made into slaw and lots of other uses. It is especially sweet when cooked.
Savoy cabbage has a distinctly wrinkly appearance and is milder than green cabbage, but used interchangeably with any cabbage.
Cabbage is an excellent sources of fiber, Vitamin K, Vitamin C and Vitamin B6. Cabbages are a good source of manganese, potassium, Vitamin B1, folate and copper. In Denmark, cabbage is used as a mainstay for prevention of Type 2 diabetes. In addition, researches have identified 20 different flavonoids and 15 different phenols in cabbage, all of which have demonstrated antioxidant activity.
Jen’s pies will be back in time for Christmas. Stay warm.
Reusable Grocery Bags
We would like to remind you about donating any washable shopping bags that you do not use.
They will find a new life and a new purpose! We use and recycle all donated bags and simply ask that you return them as you can. They will be washed each week, so we do want cotton bags, or bags made of other fabrics that can stand up to the laundry. Since all shopping bags will go into the general pool, please don’t give us any bags you specifically need to get back.
Order Early
Remember the deadline for ordering is Wednesday at noon. Unfortunately, we won’t normally be able to take late requests, as we must place vendor orders quickly.
You will receive an updated reminder on Tuesday, but please order early to be sure you get everything you would like. Supplies are sometimes limited.
If you have any questions at all, please email Hattie directly for a prompt answer.
Yours in the garden throughout the winter,
