Hermine & Ginger
Hattie’s Garden open Sunday & Monday, 11:30 to 3
Though Hermine may have sent some of us indoors on Saturday, latest weather reports are that the storm is moving off our coast as we speak and will start to stall out to our east as we enter the rest of the Labor Day weekend.
We thank all of you who did brave the weather to attend the HLFM this morning and hope not too many of you showed up after 10 a.m. when we finally all called it a day.
For those who stayed away and still need some nice produce, we have plenty of very nice arugula and lots of sweet cherry tomatoes and flower bunches for you at the Garden located at 31341 Kendale Road on on Sunday and Monday from 11:30 to 3.
We will have a few large tomatoes and a few patty pan squash as well, but the big story is our ginger!
Yes, we are finally digging the first of our fresh young ginger on Sunday morning! Rather than tough and fibrous, young ginger is juicy, plump and pink at its tips from where green stems shoot forth. Mild and tender enough to eat raw in salads, it has an almost translucent skin that is so thin it doesn’t need peeling; you can practically rub it off. Just wash it and trim the cut surfaces.
We also have red onions and Candy Yellow onions, garlic and red potatoes from Deep Grass nursery.
Yours in the garden,
