The Groundhog Saw His Shadow
The groundhog saw his shadow on Friday morning and forecast six more weeks of frigid winter. Just great.
Thus February is here and with it another plunge into below freezing temperatures. We hoped this might be some mistake since we recall Friday morning as being very cloudy and are not sure at all how a shadow could have been seen.
But, alas, all accounts tell us this is true. We are so anxious to get going in the garden, as we are currently planning what we are going to plant, ordering seeds and getting much needed supplies ready.
However, here we are and in the meantime we need to eat, and to eat well. Therefore, we are very happy to continue our delivery / pickup service this week with freshly-harvested produce from Chesapeake Organic and Fresh Harvest. In addition, we have all of our other wonderful foods and artisan products.
This also includes plenty of meat from Bohemia Lea, flash-frozen fish from AlaskaWild, sweet potatoes and garlic from Colchester Organic, delicious mushrooms from Davidson’s, cheese from Chapel’s, a great assortment of jams ‘n jellies from Backyard, wonderful honey from Baues’ Busy Bees, delicious dessert and pot-pies from Jenn, and herbal remedies from Plant Wisdom.
In addition to her made-to-order gourmet food, Patty is offering an Early Valentine’s Dinner for Two. This beautifully boxed dinner comes complete with detailed serving instructions. Each order consists of two servings of Garden Salad with goat cheese hearts, craisins and pecans, Creamy Crab Soup (6 oz.), Fillet Mignon cooked to order, AND Crab Cake with chili lime aioli, Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans Almondine, Mini-chocolate Pudding Cups, and Mini-chocolate Cupcakes with Cream Cheese.
Remember to order early as some items are sure to sell out. And please remember the deadline for ordering is Wednesday at noon.
2018 Plant CSA
We officially launched our Plant CSA for 2018. If you are a home gardener, we encourage you to participate. The program lets you purchase plant credits ahead of the season at a 10% discount to get nice healthy plants for your garden.
Although primarily meant to purchase plants, your credit can be used for any product sold by Hattie’s Garden and they will not expire. You may join anytime during the month of February.
The CSA model (Community Supported Agriculture) helps farmers like us to purchase inputs for our season. This socioeconomic model strengthens the sense of community through local markets. Hattie’s Garden Plant CSA is an important partnership with our community for our survival as a small business, as we focus on bringing real value and education to our customers. You can read more about it on last week’s post.
Yours in the Garden throughout the winter,
