Farming: Rain or Shine
Tomorrow is our cherished Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) and we know there is a forecast for rain. For farmers, the weather is a fact of life we deal with day in and day out.
In addition to your support, how we manage the vagaries of the weather has everything to do with our success or failure. We survive as small farmers largely because of your support and that support is as important to us as we think it is to you. We hope you come out and talk to us, learn from us, and get great food and products you can’t get anywhere else.
I have heard it said the most important characteristic for a “good” farmer is timing. I know that timing is everything when it comes to planting, harvesting, and caring for our crops. In addition, the timing must occur with Mother Nature in mind. Nature is unpredictable and nature does not wait. If you would like to know what the weather forecast is, ask a farmer!
We look forward to seeing you Saturday at the market, rain or shine. Please note: the HLFM will again be held at Shields Elementary School Parking Lot due to the impending rain. Wear your rain gear and enjoy the deluge!
Hattie’s Garden will be there with plants and produce, and don’t forget, we will also be open on Sunday, May 22 from 12 to 3, especially for your plant purchases. We do bring as many plants as we can to market, but the number we can carry and display is limited by space and this time will be limited even further by the weather.
For a complete list of what we will have available, please see our Plants, Produce, Plants post from earlier this week.
Yours in the garden and at the market,
