Eating Well All Winter
Yes we do eat well. Though it is sometimes difficult to get through these long weeks until spring brings renewal, here at Hattie’s Garden we have some new food to celebrate in our kitchens!
-
Bacon from Bohemia Lea’s pasture-raised pigs. We are thrilled. If you like bacon, this is a truly fine bacon, unlike anything you can purchase in the supermarket.
-
Beet greens. This week only from Chesapeake Organic. As they thin their beets in their greenhouse, they produce beautiful large bunches of beet greens, young and tender and delicious. And yes, that means new young beets are not far from your table. I personally prefer beet greens to nearly any other kind of green. These are delicious raw, lightly steamed, or braised.
-
Mango Chutney and Tomato Chutney. Backyard Jams and Jellies is at it again. Krista says she loves her new Mango Chutney and we know we will too. Check their list for over 50 unusual jellies, jams and chutneys!
And how about something from some of our other vendors you might have missed?
The duck eggs from Black Hog Farm are in abundance! Suggested uses include creamy egg salad, deviled eggs and a very yummy rich chocolate mousse.
And as fresh lettuce becomes scarce at this time of year, try one of the several lettuce selections through Fresh Harvest. They are produced with no fungicides, pesticides and are delicious.
I could say something wonderful about all of our vendor products, but suffice to say, we eat very well all winter thanks to our sustainable growers and food producers.
Remember the deadline for ordering is Wednesday at noon.
