The organic mushroom seasonings, soups, coffee and powders from Davidson Exotics have been very popular and are selling quickly. This week we are introducing various “salts” to our list of culinary mushroom seasonings. Made with certified organic mushroom powders and Himalayan pink salt as well as various herbs, these salts are wonderful for adding an amazing depth of flavor and nutrition to any recipe. You can also substitute it for regular salt and keep this at your table with your pepper mill.
Our line-up of certified organic mushroom powders have been well received. This includes Lion’s Mane that protects against dementia, provides focus and nerve health; Reishi, which can can be used as a powerful antioxidant, supports recovery from mental stress and provides resilience following physical stress; Turkey Tail, which supports a strong and healthy immune system and promotes digestive health; and a variety of blends, including Forage Blend which contains Porcini, Chanterelle, Morel, Matsutake and Wood Ear.
The ways to use these mushroom powders are limitless, but here are a few ideas — add a few pinches to the mix the next time you make granola, or toss with vegetables just before roasting. Use a teaspoon of powder in hot or cold coffee or add it to your favorite juice or smoothie. Make a dry rub for meat, poultry, or fish. Mix a compound butter with mushroom powder, coarse salt, and chopped herbs. Steep mushroom powder for a broth that tastes flavorful fast, or add it to sauces, soups, beans, greens, and baked goods — really, anything in which you want a little more oomph.
We are also carrying Davidson’s organic Wild Rice Mushroom soup, organic Fairtrade instant mushroom coffee, and Umami seasoning with Lion’s Mane, Pioppini and Grey Oyster Mushrooms. What a treat to have these medicinal and culinary mushroom products for you!
Enoch Farms has sustainably raised, naturally grown, heritage pork. They provide us with a nice assortment of products, including plenty of specialty sausages, ground pork, ham steaks, scrapple and porkchops.

Known for a much leaner, yet nicely marbled meat, “Belties” averages 46% lower in calories, 70% lower in fat and saturated fat, 57% lower in cholesterol and 19% higher in protein than comparable beef breeds, including Angus. We are carrying a nice selection of their steaks, roasts and other beef cuts.
Mahon River Farm brings us locally raised, locally fed and locally processed pasture-raised whole chickens. We are carrying chicken thighs and boneless chicken breasts.

This fish is flash-frozen and gets rave reviews from our customers.

Chapel’s Country Creamery makes some of the nicest cheese we have ever had. Their on-farm cheese-making operation is one of the first of its kind in Maryland. We love their Brie, Cheddars and Bay Blue, as well as their fresh cheese. And we are particularly fond of their alpine style Woodbine cheese, which has the perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors.
Backyard Jams & Jellies has many choices this year. If you are looking for some great jams, chutneys, or jellies for the holiday season, please take a look at the selections we have. For more choices, stop by the Garden on Tuesday or Saturday.
