This week Hattie’s Garden is pulling some of the sweetest carrots you may have ever tasted. In addition, we have a lovely assortment of microgreens.
From Davidson Exotics we are absolutely delighted to be able to offer their terrific certified organic mushroom seasonings, soups, coffee and powders in addition to their line-up of mushrooms. This includes a large variety of mushroom powders such as Lion’s Mane that protects against dementia, provides focus and nerve health; Reishi, which can can be used as a powerful antioxidant, supports recovery from mental stress and provides resilience following physical stress; and Turkey Tail, which supports a strong and healthy immune system and promotes digestive health. These powders are 100% fruiting bodies which means there is no filler or starch, just pure mushroom powder in each jar.
The ways to use these mushroom powders are limitless, but here are a few ideas — add a few pinches to the mix the next time you make granola, or toss with vegetables just before roasting. Use a teaspoon of powder in hot or cold coffee or add it to your favorite juice or smoothie. Make a dry rub for meat, poultry, or fish. Mix a compound butter with mushroom powder, coarse salt, and chopped herbs. Steep mushroom powder for a broth that tastes flavorful fast, or add it to sauces, soups, beans, greens, and baked goods — really, anything in which you want a little more oomph.
We are also carrying Davidson’s organic Wild Rice Mushroom soup, organic Fairtrade instant mushroom coffee, and Umami seasoning with Lion’s Mane, Pioppini and Grey Oyster Mushrooms. What a treat to have these medicinal and culinary mushroom products for you.
From Gaia Coffee Co. we are now carrying Farmers Market Blend — a beautiful blend of Central American coffees roasted on the darker side for a full bodied cup with notes of toffee, semi-sweet chocolate and a rich finish on the palate. Additional available blends include Slower Lower Blend — a nice blend of Colombian, Brazil and Costa Rican beans, perfect for any occasion offering a medium-dark roast with notes of toffee, semi-sweet chocolate with a full bodied finish; Aquiares CentroAmericano — full-bodied, medium roast exotic coffee with hints of cacao, oranges & almonds; Colombia Palmera Decaf — delicious blend of multiple regions in Colombia. Enoch Farms has sustainably raised, naturally grown, heritage pork. They provide us with a nice assortment of products, including plenty of specialty sausages. This week ground pork, kielbasa, ham steaks, and maple breakfast links have been added to the line-up.
Mahon River Farm brings us locally raised, locally fed and locally processed pasture-raised whole chickens. This week we are adding chicken thighs and boneless chicken breasts.
AlaskaWild provides us with some of the best wild fish available, directly from a family business based in Clam Gulch, Alaska. We carry whatever is in season and at present have salmon in the following varieties: Coho, Sockeye, Smoked Black-pepper, Smoked Cajun and of course, traditional. We also have Alaska Cod and Alaska Rockfish. This fish is flash-frozen and gets rave reviews from our customers.
Dittmar Family Farms raises Belted Galloway. This exquisite artisan beef is unlike any conventionally raised beef you will find in the supermarket. Known for a much leaner, yet nicely marbled meat, “Belties” averages 46% lower in calories, 70% lower in fat and saturated fat, 57% lower in cholesterol and 19% higher in protein than comparable beef breeds, including Angus. We are carrying a nice selection of their steaks, roasts and other beef cuts.
From Twin Posts, we have wonderful free-range chicken eggs.
Backyard Jams & Jellies has many choices this year. If you are looking for a stocking stuffer, or just some great jams, chutneys, or jellies for the holiday season, please take a look at the selections we have. For more choices, stop by the Garden on Tuesday or Saturday.
Chapel’s Country Creamery makes some of the nicest cheese we have ever had. Their on-farm cheese-making operation is one of the first of its kind in Maryland. We love their Brie, Cheddars and Bay Blue, as well as their fresh cheese. And we are particularly fond of their alpine style Woodbine cheese, which has the perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors.
Stag Run Farm apples are running low. The apples we have available are Gold Rush, Granny Smith, and JonaGold. All our apples are available in quart size (approximately 2 lbs.).
From Chrissy Bee’s, a division of Stag Run Farm, we have wildflower raw honey, Dutch clover raw honey and raw honeycomb.
