Daylight Saving Time
Now taking orders for the March 16 Pickup/Delivery service.
Daylight Saving Time (DST) began this morning, March 10, at 2:00 AM. Since we went directly from 2:00 to 3:00, there was no 2:30 AM today, or any time in between — the exception being the states and territories (e.g. Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico) that opted out of DST since it was enacted in 1966 with the passage of the Uniform Time Act.
Some say DST makes us lose an hour of sleep, but I think gaining one more precious hour of sunlight at the end of the day to beat those end-of-winter blues, makes it well worth it. And you can always go to sleep an hour earlier.
The annual time change is under legislative challenges in states and in Congress to spring forward and never fall back, making DST the standard time, year round. Proponents argue that nudging the clock forward to have more of a summer’s daylight in the evening would save energy by reducing the need for artificial light, contribute to improved road safety, help in the fight against childhood obesity, help decrease air pollution, and increase retail sales, among other things. For further information on the history of DST, read here.
Delivery/Pickup Service for Saturday, March 16
While we are fiddling with our clocks and getting busy to start planting our seeds, we are also still operating our delivery/pickup service for wonderful produce and other items from our vendors on Saturdays.
Our online order form is now open for the Saturday, March 16 Service.
Backyard Jams and Jellies has been hard at work, creating some wonderful No Sugar Added Flavors for you. The Strawberry Rhubarb Jam has some organic blue agave nectar to take the edge off the rhubarb, but just a small amount, making the jam tart and delicious. You might also enjoy their new No Sugar Added Mango Jam and No Sugar added Mango Raspberry Jam.
Patty’s Gourmet food is back, but Jen’s pies won’t be available this week.
Take a look at the order form to see what healthy selections you might add to your larder this week.
Remember the deadline for ordering is Wednesday at noon. Unfortunately, we won’t normally be able to take late requests, as we must place vendor orders quickly. We urge you to order early as supplies are sometimes limited.
