CSA Week 5
Welcome to week 5 of our Winter CSA. We are now at the halfway mark!
Though we are having some frigid temperatures this January, we are happy we can provide you with fresh produce.
What’s in This Week’s Share?
The contents for this week’s shares with “swap” options are listed below.
For items that are listed as “or” you may select one or the other, or you can just allow us to select one for you.
This week’s share will include produce from Greenbranch and Deep Grass Nursery.
We are particularly excited to provide shallots from Deep Grass. These onion-like delicacies are delightful and we feel fortunate to be able to offer them. If you are unfamiliar with how to use them, we’ve included a bit of an introduction below.

What is a shallot? Though it looks much like an onion (but smaller), and like onions and garlic, is an allium, shallots do not have the sometimes overpowering aftertaste of onions or garlic. They are less bitter than onions and take on a lovely sweet edge when cooked and a small amount will flavor your dish.
Slice thinly and use judiciously. Use shallots especially in dishes incorporating white white, cream, butter. Slowly cooked or roasted (perhaps as an accompaniment to a roasted chicken) they become meltingly sweet.
Because shallots are mild, they are also often used raw. Shallots are wonderful for incorporating into salad dressing and are good cooked with mild vegetables that onions would overpower.
