2025 Vegetable Gardening Classes
Hattie is excited to be offering her popular vegetable gardening classes at the end of March.
The gardening classes consisting of two three-hour sessions are intentionally limited in size to provide customized instruction.
They are designed to suit both those who already have experience and those who have none. For more general information on the class, please see our Gardening Class page.
The cost is $200 and includes a “plug” tray of your own “starts” you will prepare here at the Garden with seeds Hattie provides.
Class Dates
You can register online for one of two classes held over two three-hour sessions at Hattie’s Garden.
- Sunday Class: March 30 and April 13 from 1 – 4 PM
- Monday Class: March 31 and April 14 from 1 – 4 PM
Class Content
This class emphasizes practical, hands-on vegetable growing, aiming to help you create, expand, or enhance a vegetable garden in whatever space you have available.
Your garden can range from container plantings to a small or large plot in your yard. We’ll cover organic gardening principles, soil preparation, seeding and transplanting, and garden maintenance, including weeding, mulching, pest and disease control, harvesting, and succession planting. By early June, you should be enjoying fresh vegetables from your own garden.
In the first class session, you’ll develop your gardening plan for the season and explore the basics of organic gardening. The focus is on getting you growing food quickly and discovering how simple it can be to start.
In the second session, we’ll cover soil science concepts, review soil test results, and provide hands-on instruction on tools, bed preparation, seeding techniques, weeding, and more. If you’re interested, you’ll learn how to take a soil sample for testing and where to send it for organic gardening recommendations.
While Hattie does a deep dive into soil science, things are explained in a way that everyone can understand. For those who want more, plenty of resources will be provided for you.
Gardening is a wonderful adventure. Welcome aboard.
Yours in the classroom,
