2024 Spring Gardening Classes

Hattie’s Garden is excited to be offering spring gardening classes beginning in March this year.
The gardening classes consisting of two three-hour sessions are intentionally limited in size to provide customized instruction.
They are designed to suit both those who already have experience and those who have none. For more general information on the class, please see our Gardening Class page.
The cost is $200 and includes a “plug” tray of your own “starts” you will prepare here at the Garden with seeds Hattie provides.
Class Dates
You can register online for one of two classes held over two three-hour sessions at Hattie’s Garden.
- Sunday Class: March 24 and April 7 from 1 – 4 PM
- Monday Class: April 1 and April 15 from 1 – 4 PM
Class Content
The focus of the class is practical hands-on growing of vegetables, herbs and annual flowers, with a goal for you to create or expand and improve upon a vegetable, herb and annuals garden in whatever space you have available.
The size of your garden can be anything from containers to a small or large plot in your yard. We will discuss organic gardening principles, soil preparation, seeding and transplanting, garden maintenance — including weeding, mulching and pest and disease control, and harvesting and succession planting. You should be eating vegetables from your garden by the beginning of June.
During the first class session, you will formulate your gardening plans for the season and learn about organic gardening. The goal is to get you growing food as quickly as possible and to learn just how easy it is to get started.
For those interested, you will learn how to take a soil sample for testing and where to send that sample for proper organic gardening recommendations. The second session will include soil science concepts and soil test reviews, and hands-on teaching where you will learn about various tools, bed preparation, seeding techniques, weeding and more.
While Hattie does a deep dive into soil science, things are explained in a way that everyone can understand. For those who want more, plenty of resources will be provided for you.
Gardening is a wonderful adventure. Welcome aboard.
Yours in the classroom,
