2019 Spring Gardening Class Update
Due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, Hattie’s Garden will only be offering one organic gardening class this spring, instead of two. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. The class will be held over two sessions, each lasting three hours.
You can register online for the class to be held on Sunday, March 31 and Sunday April 14, from 2 – 5 p.m. Cost is $120 and includes a “plug” tray of your own “starts” that you will prepare with seeds provided by Hattie. And, of course, refreshments are provided.
The location this year will be at the studio at Plant Wisdom Within located at 18522 Little Goat Lane in Lewes. This is a nice venue for us this year with a lot of space to do the class.
If you are already a gardener, you will come away with plenty of new information and knowledge. If you have never tried to grow vegetables or flowers, and would like to give it a try, join us for the next class and learn.
Class Content
The focus of the class is practical hands-on growing of vegetables, herbs and annual flowers, with a goal for you to create or expand and improve upon a vegetable, herb and annuals garden in whatever space you have available. The size of your garden can be anything from containers to a small or large plot in your yard.
Class time is devoted to both interactive lecture and hands on activities. It should be suitable for both newcomers and those who already garden.
There will be some “homework” between sessions so that everyone can get the most from the experience.
We will discuss soil health and soil science, cool and warm weather vegetables, growing your own transplants, direct seeding, garden preparation, season extension techniques, harvesting, pests and diseases, organic controls you can employ and perhaps most importantly, why organic gardening is important.
You should be eating vegetables and/or enjoying your beautiful flowers from your garden by the beginning of June.
Gardening is a wonderful adventure. Welcome aboard.
Yours in the classroom,
