Off-Season Delivery / Pickup Service
Hattie’s Garden Off-Season Delivery / Pickup Service aims to help create a viable foodshed on Delmarva by providing you with locally grown and produced food. We do everything we can to advance local small sustainable farms and food artisans and to promote the consumption of good whole food grown locally. Hattie’s Garden stands behind everything we deliver. Always let us know if there are any problems so we can make it right.
The delivery service operates during the “off-season” when the Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) is not in session. In addition to what we grow, we offer a variety of products from other vendors, most of whom are also participants at the HLFM. We will deliver Saturday mornings throughout the months of December and January, as well as in February, depending upon our supply of local produce and other goods.
How it Works
Every Sunday, beginning December 3, we will send out an email (which will also be posted in our blog section) detailing the items available for the coming Saturday’s order. The deadline to complete this order is noon on Wednesday. Orders are filled as they are submitted and some items sell out quickly. The order form will be updated as items sell out for the week. The order form will be removed on Wednesday after the deadline. The following Sunday, a new order form will be available to begin the weekly cycle again.
What You Need to Do
Please place your order as promptly as possible in the week; do not wait until the last minute. You will want to order well ahead of the deadline of Wednesday at noon. Orders are filled as they are received and no order can be accepted after noon on Wednesday as we begin the process of placing vendor orders immediately.
For the first order of the season, please let us know the best place to leave your order if it is not your front doorstep. There is a section for special instructions for this purpose and for any other notes, questions or instructions you may have.
You will receive a confirmation email shortly after you submit your order. If you have not received within one hour after you place your order, please check your SPAM folder first, and if it is not there, please email us.
We will send an update on Tuesday indicating any sold out items, as well as any changes to our inventory for that week.
You will receive a formal invoice within 24 hours of receiving your first confirmation email. This is an indication we have actually received and placed your order.
Delivery or Pickup
If you live in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach or the Paynter Mill / Hudson Rd. area of Milton, we can deliver to your home Saturday morning for $7.50. We begin our deliveries by 7 a.m. on Saturday morning and normally finish before noon.
If you will not be home, or know you are sleeping in, and depending upon what you have ordered, please consider leaving a large cooler for your order that contains ice or cold packs if the cooler is in the sun.
In the event temperatures are predicted to be below freezing, please leave an empty cooler for your order to insulate it from freezing.
To pickup your order, come to the Garden anytime Saturday during daylight hours, or email Hattie to arrange a separate time. Someone will be at the house on Saturday all day to receive you.
We ask that you are as prompt as possible in remitting payment so that we can pay our vendors. For delivery, you may remit a check by USPS, or leave your payment in an envelope in a conspicuous location.
For pickup only, you may write a check, pay with cash, or use a credit or debit card. We are unable to take online credit card information at this time, and can only take in-person charges at the Garden.
Any changes in the final invoice not reflected in your payment will show up as a credit or debit in your account for your next order. In addition, you will receive a detailed monthly statement.
